St. Josaphat School in Chicago prays the Sports Stations of the Cross.
The ultimate manifestation of love can be found in Jesus suffering and dying for us on the cross. During the season of Lent, a great way to remember this sacrifice and grow in faith on our teams is to participate in the Stations of the Cross. This exercise involves following the path Jesus took to the cross by meditating on 14 "stations" along the way. Play Like a Champion offers a Sports Stations of the Cross, available in both video and text featuring meditations designed for athletes and teams of all ages. Teams can make this prayer by visiting your church as a team, setting aside time during practice, or even adding them to existing workouts.
During Lent, Play Like a Champion is challenging our partners to join together and pray the Stations of the Cross in our teams and communities. Simply download the Sports Stations of the Cross reflections above and pray them with your team sometime during the 40 days of Lent. Together, we can join as a community of faith in this great prayer, remembering the love of Christ in his passion and death while growing spiritually with our teams.
As you pray the Sports Stations of the Cross, send us a picture or video of your team praying the stations, just like the examples set by St. Josaphat (above) and St. Xavier High School (right). We'll post the picture to help encourage others to join as well. Simply click the image below to send us your example!
Join Champion teams across the country this Lent as we pray for the grace to grow physically, mentally and spiritually through the gift of sport!
