High School Sports Play Like a Champion
Play Like a Champion Today™ provides an all-inclusive approach to improving high school sports programs.
Staff from the University of Notre Dame will present the coaches clinic along with local leadership assistance. This 4-5 hour clinic includes training in the Play Like A Champion Today™ Sports as Ministry or Coaching for Character programs. Topics include: coaching as a ministry, the spirituality of sport, developing a team as a moral community, the GROW approach to motivation, leading a moral discussion, adolescent development, safety and risk management, and strategies for developing partnerships with parents. Coaches and administrators who are teachers can be offered continuing education credits for the workshop.
While presenting the coaches seminar, PLC staff will also be able to present a one hour Parent Like A Champion Today™ Workshop to school families. Topics include: the role of parents in high school sports programs, the GROW approach to motivation, the cardinal virtues, and the keys to success for sports parents.
This is a self-study instrument assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the athletic program with a focus on school mission. It is administered to administrators, coaches, parents and students either through online or paper surveys. PLC collects and analyzes the information and provides consultation for on-going mission-based programming.
Catholic schools often provide opportunities for class retreats to their students, but few offer the opportunity for athletic retreats. PLC has created a template for an athlete retreat and will provide schools with the resources to plan and implement the retreat locally in conjunctions with PLC staff or PLC will travel to the school to lead the retreat themselves.
